Executive Summary

Russel Products Ltd, a furniture manufacturing company based in the UK has experienced a loss in sales revenue during the past 18 months.  During the same period, the company has replaced the Managing Director and some of the sales managers have left the company to join the competition.  As a consequence, morale and motivation are low among employees.

It is evident that Russel Product need to make some changes within the organisation.  The main focus is on the sales force, in terms of improving working conditions so as to motivate the employees; and on restructuring the sales force, which is of considerable size, currently.  Other areas that need to be tackled by the company include: acquiring a database which will allow Russel Product to manage customer information; and set a sales forecasting & budgeting system.

What is performance management?

There are a number of definitions for the term ‘performance management’ and many of these are incredibly complex however they all share the same basic tenet that it involves identifying desired outcomes and the standards that need to be met along the way to achieve this.  Budgeting, reporting, communication and accountability are all key features of the process.

The following paper is a report about the introduction of an innovative pay framework at the Matalan stores. The company is relatively new in the market since its inception in the year 1985. Though the progress has been staggering and the company has moved forward while imbibing some of the best management practices seen in corporate history, there is a slack in the current pay structure practised at Matalan.

This paper looks at the issue of women in management within the financial services sector, focusing on high street banks in the United Kingdom, in the context of addressing the issue of gender discrimination within top management.  This is done by looking at past and present published papers that revolve around the subject matter under a theoretical hypothesis.  The theoretical hypothesis, which is based on published material on women in management, is used to explain the issues surrounding women in management.  Three high street banks were assessed as case studies to identify the issue of gender discrimination within UK banks.  The outcomes are also categorised under specific themes.  Finally a critical review of matches and mismatches is used to compare and contrast similarities between the theoretical hypothesis and the empirical evidence gathered for this paper.

Ranked the world’s #1 express transportation company with 3 million packages delivered daily, FedEx surely knows what it is doing to keep the business growing and prosperous (Williams 2005).   However, like most businesses these days, there are always trials and tribulations.  Important decisions must be made everyday, it is critical that quick thinking and a clearly defined method of operations management must be followed to keep things running smoothly.  Of course, the true test to whether or not a solid operations management flow is in place is how the company is able to deal with the unexpected.
