University student’s perceptions of security and privacy control on their acceptance of e-shopping

Chapter 1: Introduction

This paper investigates the impact of university student’s perceptions of security and privacy control on their acceptance of e-shopping methods. It consists of analysis of a survey which collected data from 213 participants. E-shopping was selected as the research domain due to the reason that e-shoppers are generally the most concerned of internet users with the processing and control over sensitive information such as payment information and personal financial details online, (Balabanis & Vassileou, 1999).  Accompanying the increased use of the internet e-shopping has grown rapidly yet customer concerns have been and continue to be the major obstacles to further continued growth of e-business, (Galliers & Wiggins, 2002). Accordingly it is a valuable exercise to find out the perceptions of individuals towards security and privacy controls and its relationship with the acceptance or rejection of e-shopping methods among UK university students.
